About the PointFive 0.5
FLIR Thermal Imager & Pelco Precision
The
PointFive Series
combines the power of an advanced thermal
imaging device with the precision of a Pelco
pan/tilt to create a
completely integrated, single addressable thermal imaging positioning
system. At the core of the
PointFive
is an uncooled, vanadium oxide
microbolometer, long wave infrared (LWIR) camera. It delivers
320 x 240 thermal video with a pixel size of 38 μm and supports
2X digital zoom.
Sensitive Thermal Imager
The
PointFive
Series
provides outstanding sensitivity below 40 mK.
It is capable of multiple display formats, including white hot, black
hot, and color signatures.
* The
PointFive
is available with three different
lens configurations (14.25 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm focal lengths) for
effective deployment in a wide range of applications.
Durable Enclosure
A powder-coated, aluminum construction makes the
PointFive Series
ideal for either indoor or outdoor applications. The system has an
absolute operating temperature range of -50° to 140°F (-45° to 60°C).
Within two hours after power-up, the entire unit can de-ice and be
operational from a temperature of -13°F (-25°C).
Environmentally Prepared
A built-in heater, window defroster/defogger, sun shroud, and
insulation blanket are standard features on the
PointFive Series.
All units also include an open collector auxiliary output that functions
for two seconds before deactivating.
Speed & Precision
The
PointFive
Series
variable pan and tilt speeds range from 0.1 to
40 degrees per second in manual pan mode and 0.1 to 20 degrees
per second in manual tilt. Pan preset and turbo speeds are
100 degrees per second in wind speeds of 50 mph and 50 degrees
per second in the 90-mph wind-speed profile.
Tilt preset speed is
30 degrees per second. The
PointFive
is capable of 360 degrees of
continuous pan rotation. The tilt range allows for horizontal viewing
of +33 to -83 degrees. There are 64 programmable preset positions
with a preset accuracy of one-quarter degree.
Power
PointFive Series
systems are available with an input voltage of 24 VAC
or with a selectable power source of 120/230 VAC. The
PointFive
also
has a power-up recovery mode that lets users specify the operation to
perform whenever the power is cycled.

The Johnson Criteria assumes that the critical dimension for a human being is 0.75 meters. To get DRI, you need 1.5 pixels, 6 pixels and 12 pixels across 0.75 meters in the object pane. That means:
|
Detection |
|
1.5 pixels / 0.75m = 2 pixels per meter |
|
Recognition |
|
6 pixels / 0.75m = 8 pixels per meter |
|
Identification |
|
12 pixels / 0.75m = 16 pixels per meter |
|
Assuming that a man is 1.83m by 0.5m, the following would apply:

3.6 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there) |

13 pixels by 5 pixels
(You can see that a
person is there) |

28.8 pixels by 8 pixels
(You can see that the
person looks like a soldier) |
|

Assuming that a vehicle is 4m by 1.5m, the following would apply:
2.8 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there) |
13 pixels by 5 pixels
(You can see that a
vehicle is there) |
26 pixels by 10 pixels
(You can see that the
vehicle may be a humvee) |

Assuming that a inflatable boat is 9m by 1m, the following would apply:
4.5 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there) |
18 pixels by 2 pixels
(You can see that a
boat of some kind is there) |
36 pixels by 4 pixels
