FLIR PATROL-IR

About the Patrol-IR

Low Cost / High Performance
The FLIR Patrol-IR is a low cost, compact pan and tilt thermal imager engineered for law enforcement applications. Thermal imaging is a powerful tool in law enforcement because suspects can't hide their heat.

The new Patrol IR is ideally suited to vehicle installations with its 360 degree viewing capability. The Patrol-IR is a true infrared thermal camera that uses no light. Night vision will never compare to thermal cameras.

In-Depth Look at the Patrol-IR

State of the art thermal imaging technology:
See suspects and activity in total darkness without revealing your position using the same technology as the US Military

Requires no illumination:
Thermal imaging is a passive technology, so suspects don't know that you can see them

High sensitivity detector:
Reveals subtle temperature differences, making it difficult for suspects to camouflage their heat signature

320x240 Resolution:
4X the resolution of most competing systems, with superior range detection and image quality

Compact panning enclosure:
Easily scan a 360° area from the safety of your vehicle

Fully automatic image optimization:
Requires no manipulation or adjustment to get high contrast imagery

The Johnson Criteria assumes that the critical dimension for a human being is 0.75 meters. To get DRI, you need 1.5 pixels, 6 pixels and 12 pixels across 0.75 meters in the object pane. That means:

Detection
1.5 pixels / 0.75m = 2 pixels per meter
Recognition
6 pixels / 0.75m = 8 pixels per meter
Identification
12 pixels / 0.75m = 16 pixels per meter

Assuming that a man is 1.83m by 0.5m, the following would apply:

Human Detection
Detection
3.6 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there)
Human Recognition
Recognition
13 pixels by 5 pixels
(You can see that a
person is there)
Human Identification
Identification
28.8 pixels by 8 pixels
(You can see that the
person looks like a soldier)
The Johnson Criteria assumes that the critical dimension for a human being is 0.75 meters. To get DRI, you need 1.5 pixels, 6 pixels and 12 pixels across 0.75 meters in the object pane. That means:

Detection

Recognition

Assuming that a vehicle is 4m by 1.5m, the following would apply:

Vehicle Detection
Detection
2.8 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there)
Vehicle Recognition
Recognition
13 pixels by 5 pixels
(You can see that a
vehicle is there)
Vehicle Identification
Identification
26 pixels by 10 pixels
(You can see that the
vehicle may be a humvee)

Assuming that a inflatable boat is 9m by 1m, the following would apply:

Boat Detection
Detection
4.5 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there)
Boat Recognition
Recognition
18 pixels by 2 pixels
(You can see that a
boat of some kind is there)
Boat Identification

(You can see that the boat
is a small Inflatable Boat)
