Introduction

HRC-Series: Thermal Imaging Cameras for Ultra Long Range Surveillance Applications with Cooled InSb detector

The HRC-Series are equipped with a highly reliable, mid-wave, cooled Indium Antimonide (InSb) detector which offers extremely long range detection in all weather conditions. The cameras offer a continuous zoom. This offers excellent situational awareness while also giving the possibility to zoom in at suspect activities, and have a closer look, once they are detected. The HRC-series can be integrated into existing networks or used portably.

The HRC-Series offer extreme long range detection and excellent image quality, in the darkest of nights, through smoke and dust. You can detect a man-size target several kilometers away. All thermal imaging cameras are extremely suited for border and coastal surveillance but also for mid-range threat detection.

All versions are also available as a Multi-Sensor systems. In this case they are combined with a daylight camera. Optionally a GPS unit, a Digital Magnetic Compass and laser rangefinder are available.

In-Depth Look at the HRC-MS

Pan/Tilt Mechanism:
The pan/tilt offers 360° of continuous viewing and precise control with 1 mrad of pointing accuracy, critical for geo-location or pre-programmed search repeatability.

GPS/DMC:
An onboard GPS and Digital Magnetic Compass work together to provide precise geo-location of objects of interest in the scene. This information can be displayed on an overlay map, or as lat/long coordinates.

HRC Thermal:
The high-resolution, cooled thermal sensor can be configured with either the 40x490mm or a 60x750mm lens for maximum range performance.

Daylight Camera/LRF:
You can choose between two daylight cameras and an optional eye-safe laser rangefinder (LRF). The LRF contributes to the accuracy of the geo-location feature of objects in the scene.

Maximum Detail:
With FLIR's HRC thermal security camera, you'll see more detail from greater distances than ever before. HRC's 640x480 detector creates crisp, high-resolution thermal video, putting more pixels on target for extreme image detail at unbelievably long ranges.

Maximum Range:
The FLIR HRC comes with a choice of two long-range telescopes: 40x490mm and 60x750mm. In addition to their 12.5:1 optical zoom ratio, both HRC models have 2:1 & 4:1 digital zoom, giving you the ability to reach out to targets far beyond the capability of any other thermal security camera in its class. HRC's continuous zoom feature provides tactical benefits of immeasurable value.

By not limiting the operator to two discrete fields-of-view, the HRC operator does not lose sight of the target while changing between zoom settings. What''s more, the operator can select the field-of-view that meets the precise needs of the tactical environment, rather than having to make do with one that is too wide or too tight for his requirements.

Features

Knowing your Thermal Imager
Not all long-range thermal security cameras are created equal. There are lots of factors that impact a thermal camera's ultimate range performance. Is the detector a high resolution 640x480 array or medium resolution 320x240 array? How big are the pixels?

What is the focal length of the telescope? Were the detector and telescope designed to work together from day one, or are they unmatched assemblies from different vendors? Does the thermal camera offer Digital Detail Enhancement? Does the thermal camera provide automatic focus and automatic image adjustment?

The HRC answers all of these questions to ensure maximum range performance.

• FLIR Systems designed and produced the HRC's thermal detector. It is a high-resolution 640x480 format that has 4 times the picture clarity of cameras that use medium format 320x240 detectors.

• The HRC high sensitivity detector pixels are 15µm in size. What does this mean to you? You can see more detail with HRC than with cameras that use detectors with larger pixels.

The Johnson Criteria assumes that the critical dimension for a human being is 0.75 meters. To get DRI, you need 1.5 pixels, 6 pixels and 12 pixels across 0.75 meters in the object pane. That means:

Detection
1.5 pixels / 0.75m = 2 pixels per meter
Recognition
6 pixels / 0.75m = 8 pixels per meter
Identification
12 pixels / 0.75m = 16 pixels per meter

Assuming that a man is 1.83m by 0.5m, the following would apply:

Human Detection
Detection
3.6 pixels by 1 pixel
(You can see something
is there)
Human Recognition
Recognition
13 pixels by 5 pixels
(You can see that a
person is there)
Human Identification

28.8 pixels by 8 pixels
